The City of Unley is recognised for its strong community spirit, natural and built environment, business strength and innovative leadership. The Council is considered a Local Government environment and sustainability leader, with a focus on heritage and preservation, while encompassing diversity, sustainability in environmental practices and activated public spaces.

The Council is responsible for an area of 14 square kilometres, a population of around 38,000 and over 18,000 rateable properties. The city contains five (5) shopping precincts nestled in character residential settings with infrastructure assets worth more than $530m.

The City of Unley has recently adopted a number of significant and exciting infrastructure focused strategies, plans and programs which aim to drive the enhancement of Council’s key built assets and ensure sustainability for future generations. This has resulted in the creation of this new and exciting leadership role.

Reporting to the General Manager Assets & Sustainability, this new opportunity exists for a highly motivated Manager City Operations to join the team. This role will provide strong and progressive leadership with a high level of technical expertise to deliver the required outcomes expected by the City Operations team. This position will develop and deliver annual maintenance programs for the City’s key built assets and operational services. In addition, you will champion a culture of excellence, ensuring a high level of efficiency and management of resources, to deliver Council’s goals and objectives.

The successful candidate must demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of local government responsibilities and obligations relating to operational services. You will have a strong customer experience focus, high emotional intelligence with the ability to think and act strategically. Experience in leading, managing and developing people and resources across a range of complex projects is vital. It is essential that the successful candidate possesses the ability to interpret legislation, along with a high level of financial management and budgeting skills.

A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Natural Resource Management or a related field is essential, with a minimum five (5) years’ experience in a senior leadership role being preferred. You will have exceptional interpersonal, relationship management and communication skills, including the capacity to negotiate and communicate on behalf of The City of Unley. Local government experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
