The $2 million scholarship program supports people through giving them access to Australian Institute of Company Directors courses.

Services Minister Amanda Rishworth hopes these scholarships will allow more people living with disabilities access to employment in boardroom settings.

“It’s important that people living with disability who gain employment have leadership pathways.”

Mr. Albanese has also promoted a newly launched jobs advertisement platform founded by tennis star and 2022 Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott.

The site called TheField.jobs received $6 million government grant and works to connect employers with the estimated 500,000 people with a disability seeking employment.

Mr Alcott called for a more diverse workforce including within high stake jobs with power and influence.

“…We don’t want anyone with disability to feel pressure to go out there and advocate for any disability…they just want to be themselves.

“I think you’d be surprised even in this building, the amount of people that actually do have some sort of disability or mental health struggle, and I think it’s great more people are feeling included to come and talk about it.”

An additional one hundred scholarships will be available in the second round of the program, with applications to open in January 2023.
