In hopes of rebooting what came to a standstill over the last pandemic-filled year, Qantas has announced an exciting new project involving the development of a new aircraft base right here in the heart of Adelaide!
This scheme will not only aim to attract more than half a million additional visitors to South Australia but will most importantly create close to 200 new jobs. Occupations such as pilots, cabin crew, general on-airport personnel and engineers will all be highly valued positions.
This project couldn’t come at a more ideal time with the progression of the Trans-Tasman bubble, allowing for more interstate and overseas travel.
The recent aid of millions of dollars from government funding towards airlines such as Qantas has provided the opportunity for the airline to retain their international potential as well as maintain countless jobs.
Qantas should receive approximately $146m in funding and $174m towards training.
It has also been said by Qantas chief executive, Alan Joyce, that taxpayer money was “critical” in influencing the decision of establishing the base in Adelaide.
The State Government addressed that initial expectations from Qantas were the operation of three Embraer E190 aircrafts throughout mid-2021, however, a government representative also stated that Qantas wishes to expand the base in the coming years.
Premier Steven Marshall announced that the new base would “position Adelaide as Australia’s regional aviation hub”, representing strong networks and capabilities within the industry.
The development of this aircraft base at Adelaide Airport will allow greater service for South Australia by prompting more local work and helping to attract more travellers to our state.
