Studying VET at school

Choosing to study VET or stay in school isn’t black or white, you can do both! Get a head start in your career while you’re still at school by studying VET while completing your SACE at the same time!

There’s a few different ways you can study VET at school too. Some of your options include:

  • School-based apprenticeship
  • VET courses offered through individual schools
  • Starting a course that can help you get your SACE but also can keep studying once you’ve finished school.

Start a Flexible Industry Pathway

Flexible Industry Pathways have been developed with industry so you can gain the skills you need to succeed in South Australia’s growth industries. By starting a Flexible Industry Pathway, you can study VET while at school through either:

  • On-the-job training (a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship)
  • Off-the-job training (institutional delivery)

A full list of Flexible Industry Pathways is available on the Department for Education Student Pathways website.

Interested? You can also speak with your school’s VET Coordinator to discuss your options further as well.

Stackable VET options

There are other industry supported options outside of a Flexible Industry Pathway that you can consider. If you’re looking to build your employability skills or still deciding whether VET is for you, then you can also ask your school about Stackable VET options.

This can include an introduction to VET, pre-vocational qualifications to help you build your literacy and numeracy relevant to a workplace, and short courses to help you improve your skills in a particular work area.
